Fighting against the World Congress of Families

When we found out that the meeting of the World Congress of Families (WCF) was going to take place in Italy with support from the Italian government, we immediately started to work on a campaign.

First we created a website, mocking the design of the official WCF page, with quotes from their speakers, exposing what the group really stands for.

Then we targeted the Italian government with a petition, urging them to withdraw their endorsement for the WCF.

Three weeks later, we had built the largest coalition in All Out's history in support of the campaign: 29 Italian and European groups partnered with us, and almost 150,000 All Out members signed the petition.

And it worked! The logo of the Italian government was removed from the WCF’s website.

We decided to escalate the campaign further with a series of offline activities in Verona.

We organized a flash-mob at Juliet’s Tomb (Verona is the city of Romeo and Juliet), a highly symbolic place where civil partnerships are celebrated.

From there we sent the signatures to the Italian government, before heading to the Province government of Verona with 6 boxes full of signatures.

On the evening before the WCF meeting began, we lit up Verona with a massive projection – funded by donations from All Out members – featuring messages of inclusivity and love.

And a day later, All Out members joined tens of thousands of people who flooded Verona in protest against the WCF.
