Helping LGBT+ Shelters In Uganda Stay Open

Uganda can be a dangerous place for many LGBT+ people, where a national law criminalizes same-sex conduct with a life-imprisonment sentence. Most recently, politicians used the LGBT+ community as scapegoats during the presidential election to gain support. All this, coupled with the harsh reality of the pandemic, made life very difficult for LGBT+ Ugandans going into 2021.

That’s why All Out launched a Grassroots Giving campaign in February with two LGBT+ shelter groups in the country: Key Populations Uganda and the Initiative for People Affected and Infected. Both groups were facing an unprecedented need for help, covering the costs of shelter rent, food, medication, and more.

All Out members jumped into action and raised enough to keep both groups going for the difficult months ahead.
