Victory in Finland: A win for LGBT+ asylum seekers
Russian couple wins landmark asylum case. But the fight continues! After months of uncertainty, a lesbian couple from Russia has officially won their case for asylum in Finland – and it's thanks to people like you.
Together with thousands of All Out members and supportive local partners, this brave couple launched a petition calling on the Finnish Migration Service to stop deporting LGBT+ people to Russia and to comply with international standards like the Geneva Convention.
Their demands were clear:
- Stop deporting LGBT+ asylum seekers to Russia
- Update outdated information on Russia’s anti-LGBT+ laws
- Respect the 21-month deadline for asylum decisions
Thanks to relentless advocacy and nearly 10,000 people who spoke out, they were granted legal asylum in Finland!
But the fight isn’t over.
The petition remains open, demanding that Finnish authorities make lasting policy changes to protect all LGBT+ asylum seekers – not just one couple.
This victory proves what we can achieve when we act together – with courage, solidarity, and love.
