From trainee alert to global impact: Stopping hate in music
A 2023 West Africa trainee sparked a global fight against a violent anti-LGBT+ song in Cameroon, proving the power of people united worldwide.Sometimes, change begins with one voice daring to speak up. That’s exactly how this campaign started — not in a big city boardroom, but with a dedicated trainee in All Out’s 2023 West Africa Training. They courageously raised the alarm about a hateful song spreading across streaming platforms, calling for violence against LGBT+ people in Cameroon. From there, a powerful journey unfolded.
Together, we researched and confirmed the song—Les nerfs des boys, by Cameroonian artist Snoopy la Mélodie—was everywhere: Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, TikTok. Its hateful lyrics, urging listeners to “stab the f**s,” stirred real danger in a country where being LGBT+ is criminalized. The risk was urgent, and ignoring it was not an option.
The campaign gained rapid momentum, powered by the passion of over 13,000 All Out members worldwide who signed the petition started by the trainee. Their voices resonated across continents, proving the incredible strength of people power — the very principle at All Out’s heart — where grassroots energy drives real change.
Another thing that stands out about this journey is how it demonstrated the power of global solidarity breaking down language barriers. Bringing a Francophone country’s struggle into the global spotlight isn’t always easy, but this campaign crossed divides, speaking truth to power on an international stage. It sparked decisive action from French activists, who filed a formal complaint in France against the artist — a profound example of people standing up for each other regardless of distance.
Thanks to relentless pressure from this global community, Apple Music and Spotify removed the song in early 2025, with YouTube taking down the official audio. Though the song still appears on some channels and the threat remains, this progress is a testament to what determined collective action can achieve.
This campaign’s story proves that respect, courage, and unwavering commitment can move mountains. It shows how one person’s alert — a trainee’s sharp eye and brave voice — ignited a worldwide movement holding powerful platforms and authorities accountable. It underscores the vital importance of connecting voices across borders to protect lives and defend dignity.
While there is more work ahead, this campaign reflects the resilience and strength of a global community united against hatred and violence.
