India: A Safe Space, A Second Chance
All Out members rescue a life-saving shelter in Manipur, India, and gave refuge, care, and hope to over 80 LGBT+ people during a time of crisis. For many LGBT+ people in India, home isn’t a safe place. Discrimination, rejection, and violence often leave them without shelter or support. With the help of All Out members, Ya-All’s shelter in Manipur became a lifeline—offering over 80 queer youth a safe place to stay, access to food, hygiene supplies, clean clothes and essential medical care—including over-the-counter medications and menstrual health kits.
Beyond emergency housing, the shelter also provided psychosocial support, reaching 142 LGBT+ people with trauma-informed counselling. Residents were trained in peer support and psychological first aid, helping to build community resilience and ensure that care didn’t stop at the shelter doors. Despite ongoing challenges like financial insecurity and limited access to services, this project proved the power of grassroots action. Together, we’ve helped protect and empower some of the most vulnerable members of the LGBT+ community—and created a space where healing and dignity can begin.
Many of those who came to the shelter also found the tools to begin rebuilding their lives. Through skill-building workshops and community support, residents gained confidence, self-esteem, and critical knowledge about their rights and identities.
The success of this project also laid bare a hard truth: LGBT+ people are still largely invisible in mainstream social and relief services. This shelter existed because people like you chose to act.
Thank you for making a difference. Thank you for showing up.
