In December 2020, Switzerland's government finally announced that they would introduce marriage equality.
However, conservative opponents got together and managed to force a referendum on the issue, to be held in September 2021.
When the news of the public vote broke, hundreds of All Out members started sharing their LGBT+ wedding pictures in solidarity with LGBT+ people in Switzerland. Check out some of the beautiful photos here:
As the referendum approached, the All Out community did it again: thousands of us, from around the world, signed a message in support of marriage equality in Switzerland.
Our Swiss partners from “Yes, I do Switzerland”, were absolutely overwhelmed by the solidarity and love sent their way. So, they passed on the heart-warming pictures and notes to the Swiss voters.
And then it happened!
On September 26, the Swiss people overwhelmingly voted YES on marriage equality! More than 64% of voters backed same-sex marriage in the referendum.
This was a huge victory for our Swiss LGBT+ community, and the result of many years of hard work by activists and organizations in the country.
